At one of our grocery stores, they'll occasionally run specials where if you buy X number of dollars in meat (and that includes deli meats & cheeses), you can get 10 or 20 or 30 cents off a gallon of fuel, so I'll try to take advantage of that--it may not be a reduced price, but it does help in other areas. I also buy at Costco much of my meats. They don't always have everything, and I know I'll be spending about $30 - $50 on meats every two weeks, but I can cut up some of the larger cuts of meat, and I can get chicken for anywhere from $1.19 - $2.99/lb depending on what type of meat it is. My husband and I are discussing buying a side of beef right now, since the long-term cost savings would be beneficial, just coming up with that upfront money is the hard part!<br />Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10072706769675479529noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-265772262233409826.post-37284700103672671452015-01-12T09:04:01.955-08:002015-01-12T09:04:01.955-08:00We have a single, low-income mom to twin, 15-year-...We have a single, low-income mom to twin, 15-year-old boys in our church. She was just saying last week that if meat prices didn't change, they were going to become vegetarians! Lol It really is ridiculous. We have an Aldi's here, and while I won't actually buy all of their meat items, their frozen lean ground beef has become a standard for us. It was only 2.79 a pound. Then it went up a bit. Now it is 3.99 a pound. Walmart's meat was about 5 a pound for the most fatty. Of course, I fry it and then rinse it in scalding hot water to degrease it a bit. My parents wanted to cook fried cubed steak in mushroom gravy for me when I came to visit. That used to be a cheapy and was one of my childhood favorites. They did cook it, but it was very expensive. I love to find marked down meat! I don't find it much, but when I do I just grab it if it's on the last day of it's life and then, like you said, either cook or freeze! The Skinny on Stacihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16629215581187785926noreply@blogger.com
