Two Bulb Planting Tips

As long as the soil in your garden hasn't frozen hard, there's still time to plant spring blooming bulbs (including tulips, daffodils, hyacinths, and crocus). And if your soil is frozen, you can still plant bulbs in pots. Spring flowering bulbs require almost no care - just sun (when it's available) and water. You may even forget about them during winter - but you'll be so glad you planted them when spring comes. Bulbs are usually sold in packets with planting and care directions on them, but if you have bulbs that got separated from their package, here are two rules for making bulb planting easy: 1. Plant bulbs two or three times as deep as the bulb is tall.

2. If you don't know which end up the bulb is up, plant the bulb on it's side. The bulb will send a shoot up toward the sun, even if it's not planted upright.
